Aquaculture Research Assistant – Term Position

Northeast Nutrition, a division of Cooke Aquaculture Inc, requires a highly motivated, results orientated individual to fill the role of Aquaculture Research Assistant.

Headquartered in Southwestern New Brunswick, Cooke Aquaculture Inc. has grown dramatically through recent acquisitions to become Canada’s largest fully integrated, independent producer of Atlantic Salmon and related products. Northeast Nutrition Inc. offers world class aquaculture nutrition feeding programs.

This is a term position and will be based in St. Andrews, NB at the Huntsman Marine Science Center. The term will be from April – December 2010.

Reporting to the Fish Feed Nutrition Manager and the Senior Research Technician, your responsibilities will include:
• Management of fish husbandry with emphasis on feeding, health and bio-security in a land-based flow-through tank facility
• Monitor and record water quality data
• Maintain aquaculture research facilities and associated equipment
• Fully participate in research sample collection; including fish handling, weight and length recording, tissue sampling, filleting, shipping and storage etc;
• Participate in and responsible for collection of scientific data in accordance with Northeast Nutrition Inc. Standard Operating Procedures

The successful candidate will have completed 2 years of an accredited college or undergraduate degree preferably related to aquatic biology/aquaculture. You will have experience in fish husbandry/handling/feeding as well as an understanding of scientific methodology.
You will possess excellent oral and written skills as well as strong computer skills in the MS Word and Excel programs. You will have the ability to work with minimal supervision.
