The Aquaculture Association of Canada is a not-for-profit organization formed to foster an aquaculture industry in Canada.
We were created in 1984, being the first national association in Canada, with the objectives to promote, support and encourage the educational, scientific, and technological development and advancement of aquaculture in Canada.
The AAC also gathers and disseminates technical and scientific information on aquaculture development in Canada and throughout the world. It is our mandate to encourage the teaching of all phases of aquaculture and the training of aquaculturists and to encourage private industry and government agencies, both provincial and federal, to support education, research and development.

The AAC is currently recruiting for the following position of Exectutive Director. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the successful candidate will lead and manage the Association. Relevant background includes experience in leading and managing a not-for-profit or non-governmental organization complemented by comprehensive knowledge of various levels of government, and important issues within the aquaculture community.

The Aquaculture Association of Canada (AAC) has an interest in the dissemination of technical/scientific aquaculture information in the support of aquaculture education & training.
A need was identified to provide a current database of scientific evidence related to key relevant issues in salmon aquaculture. The Fisheries and Marine Institute (MI) of Memorial University of Newfoundland has further enhanced its support for the global aquaculture industry through a new Master of Technology Management (Aquaculture) and a Technical Certificate in Aquaculture (Salmonid or Mussel). The programs, offered via MI’s School of Fisheries, will provide abundant benefits to employers and employees in this field.
The Master of Technology Management (Aquaculture) focuses on aquaculture technology and its management. This 10-course program, which will be offered online starting September 2011, allows professionals to continue working while advancing their skills and careers through education.

Dr. Anderson was a founding member and the first President of the Aquaculture Association of Canada. He was a passionate believer in the importance of aquaculture to removing fishing pressure on wild stocks, especially of Atlantic salmon. Now is the time to get your nominations in for the Research Award of Excellence!
The Board of Directors can annually recognize individuals for their outstanding research contribution to aquaculture in Canada. Awardees will be invited to the Annual Meeting where they will be presented with a medal and/or plaque and asked to give a special presentation. The Research Award of Excellence recipients will be recorded in the Conference Proceedings.

The AAC is a not-for-profit national association that is mandated to foster the development of the Canadian aquaculture sector through education, research and information dissemination. We are seeking interested individuals willing to consider putting their or someone else’s name forward for the election ballot for 2011. There will be three vacancies in May 2011, and therefore an election to fill these vacancies is required during the winter of 2011.
